MEETING TIME AND LOCATION

We get together every 2nd Tuesday of the month except for the month of December when we have our annual Christmas/End of Year Dinner.

Our meeting location is the Northminster Presbyterian Church which is located at 7706 - 25th Avenue NW in the Loyal Heights neighborhood of Seattle.

Our next meeting will be held on October 14

Always the second Tuesday of the month.

Our meetings begin with junior activities at 6:30 PM. The regular meeting begins at 7:30 PM and includes a show-and-tell session. After club business is transacted we have a 10-25 minute program of interest to our members and guests.

Recent program subjects have been Indian zeolites, dangerous minerals, the Stonerose Fossil Center and the use of hematite in the search for life on Mars. Refreshments are served at the conclusion of the presentation. For more information or questions, please e-mail us at: info(at)northseattlerockclub.org

October Program Schedule:

Many of us have admired the distinctive jewelry of the Indian tribes in the American Southwest, including their use of turquoise, coral, and other stones. Jean Shaffer, club member and frequent visiter to the Southwest and an Indian jewelry collector, will describe the traditional jewelry styles of the Navajo, Hopi, Zuni and Santo Domingo tribes and bring samples of each to our October meeting.

October Show-N-Tell

Spheres! Enough said!

What Goes Around Comes Around (but does it end up round?) Well if you haven’t guessed by now, I’m talking about the sphere-making challenge presented at the last meeting. I have already seen results from some of our members and I’m impressed, and they had fun making them. It seems the biggest problem has been to get the roughed-out sphere to start spinning on the end of the PVC tube. This has a lot to do with the size of the sphere and how symmetrical it is. Most people have found that if you just use the tube like a dop stick and roll the roughed-out sphere with your thumb as you grind and sand, it will end up pretty darn round. I’m looking forward to seeing all of your results at the October meeting. I think we should have spheres as the show-and-tell theme, so don’t forget to put them in your pocket and bring the to the meeting..........Rick
